James Hiroyuki Liao's Sheds Light on the Shadowy STAR TREK: SECTION 31
James Hiroyuki Liao, a veteran actor whose career spans more than 20 years, is set to shine in the highly anticipated Star Trek: Section 31 movie. This film, starring the legendary Michelle Yeoh, promises to take fans deeper into the darker corners of the Star Trek universe. Liao, whose enthusiasm for his character is palpable, shared some insights about his role with Screenrant, despite the tight lid on plot details.
"I can't say really much about anything about who I play on Star Trek: Section 31. All I can say is that my guy is very, very intense. Without giving anything away, he's a broken soul, and hurt people hurt people. I think I gotta leave it at that, otherwise I get in trouble. But I love playing him," Liao revealed.
This glimpse into Liao's character hints at a complex and emotionally charged portrayal. The notion of a "broken soul" suggests a character with a rich backstory and depth, promising viewers an intriguing addition to the Star Trek canon. The intensity Liao mentions points to a performance that will likely resonate with fans and leave a lasting impression.
What makes this role even more special for Liao is the opportunity to work alongside Michelle Yeoh, an actress he deeply admires.
"He's maybe one of the greatest characters I've had the chance to play, and working with my hero [Michelle Yeoh] for such a long time has just been an insane time for me. I'm working with so many people that I have admired for so long. Michelle Yeoh is just everything, and I loved working with her."
Liao's words reflect genuine admiration and excitement, highlighting the collaborative spirit on set. Yeoh's stature in the film industry and her dynamic presence undoubtedly create a fertile ground for memorable performances. Liao's experience working with her has been nothing short of transformative.
"It was such a special cast as well. I've been on cloud nine. I'm so lucky. If you told this kid from Brooklyn that this is where he'd be 20 years ago? I would have never believed you. I'm so fortunate. I'm speechless," Liao added.
